I think I need a drink , , ,

For lack of better functioning cognitive abilities, I am simply going to cut and paste my email that I sent out for those that read this blog but may not have gotten the email . . .

Tuesday morning at 7:30am, the girls and I went to see Mom. She had the pain drip removed and was on the pills and starting to become more lucid. They moved her last night into the Transition Care Unit. I was there for a few hours around 10am this morning and she is really doing great. I am waiting on a call back from the care coordinator to find out how long her stay is. Right now it's a guess of 1-2 weeks.

So in between visiting her yesterday morning and this morning, I decided to take a tour of a few other hospitals in Knoxville. After we got home yesterday Samantha went down for her morning nap and woke up around 10:15am screaming and breathing very short breaths. She seemed lethargic after her screaming bout and her breathing was really strained. I watched her for about 3-4 minutes and then the girls and I jumped into the car and headed for the Parkwest Emergency Room. After 2hrs of examining there, they decided that we needed to immediately go to the Children's Hospital ER.

A series of tests, x-rays, sonograms, etc were done to determine that Samantha had Intussusception in her colon (say that word 10 times fast). Basically, a portion of her intestines had collapsed in on itself. If it had gone untreated there are bad consequences - you can google it if you want the gory details . . . Anyway, after a lengthy barium enema and some tilting and turning to push the fluids through, they pushed through area and "popped" it out - my precise medical terminology is great, isn't it?? :)

So I spent last night in Children's with her so they could evaluate her and make sure that there was not a reoccurrence - Jayson was home with Marlie after rushing back from Nashville! He relieved Donna and Barry who were on Marlie watch - and Michele who was with me and helping me keep it together. Jayson stayed with Sam this morning while I stepped out for a jaunt over to St. Mary's to be with Mom for a few hours.

Samantha was discharged this afternoon and is home and sleeping . . .a lot so far! She is doing just fine.

Short story - Mom is doing well, Samantha is doing well - and if you need a review of the local hospital menus, feel free to ask :)
