When people hear that I work from home full time, 8 out of 10 times I get the reaction "That must be so great" . . . well, it truly depends on the day and how often my phone rings or how many hours are spent on conference calls. Don't get me wrong, I will NEVER go back to an office job - I wasn't cut out for it in the beginning (hence the move to Bar Manager) and now I have had the flexibility, and don't think I would ever be able to give it up.
But you know the cliche phrase "the grass is always greener on the other side" - I see that. SAHM's sometimes think it's a luxury to get out of the house and go to work (and have extra income) - and working mom's think that it would be a blessing and luxury to stay at home with their children . . . and there are definitely merits to both sides. But what about not being on either side of the fence, but right in the middle on the fence with the post up your butt!?!??!
It's a very different perspective . . . I don't get the "luxury" to leave the house every day without kids and have adult conversation (I have conference calls where I have to quickly hit the mute button before someone yells or the dog barks) . . . and I don't have the "luxury" to sit at home and just be with my kids (again with the conference calls) . . . .
It's tough - but that's called being a parent and making choices . . . and I guess in the end, even though it is a non-stop balancing act throughout the day, I would never give up the moments above :)
