AR

So Marlie brought home her folder today with a note from the teacher that she'd like to talk sometime this week . . . I dropped her an email that I wouldn't be able to meet this week without the other kiddos along, but to give me a call. I have to admit that I was extremely curious as to what she wanted to discuss and was very relieved that she called me about 20 minutes later!

Marlie has been working a little on her own with a teacher's helper with her sight words and reading . . . and her teacher feels that in another week or 2 she will be ready to begin the official accelerated reading (AR) program. They have a program with books sent home, activities to do, and then they answer some reading comprehension questions on the computer at school when they're ready, for each book read, and get points. At the end of each period, they add up the points earned from testing and get to go to the school library and "shop" for a special trinket.

Um . . . do you think Marlie was a little excited when I told her about this?!?! We immediately added the remaining sight words to her flash card ring and went through all 50 of them tonight fairly quickly. She is very excited . . . and we, as her parents, could not be more proud. This program will most likely put her at a 1st grade or above reading level by the end of the year! And she already loves to read and learn, so the teacher thinks that she is going to move extremely fast once we get started . . . P-R-O-U-D!!!!

And she also wrote a letter to Santa last night and put it in the mail on her way to the bus this morning . . . Santa better be on the ball, because she is serious about this business this year! As in "If I write Chicka Chicka will Santa know that I want both Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and Chicka Chicka 123, or do I need to put that on 2 separate lines?"

I think it it so neat that you can just email a teacher now. It makes things so much easier. Congrats to Marlie. I know you must be SO proud.
